Cancering. Yes, cancering. Cancer is a noun. Yet, the journey of the cancer experience makes the experience of cancer a verb.
The cancering journey begins with a suspicion that health is compromised. It continues with receiving a medical diagnosis, deciding upon and entering treatment, rebuilding after treatment, and finally rehabilitating and integrating back into life. Although the process is not so linear, these stages are all present in varying degrees. During each of these periods, the body is dealing with the treatment process, the mind is going through a variety of feelings and emotions, and Spirit is integrating the experience.
Yoga has tools for the various stages to support the client. We are treating the person (not the disease) so the tools need to be personally adapted to the client, the treatment plan, the type of cancer, and how they are reacting or responding to their experience.
