Pathology, yuk.  Yet, when clients come in for a yoga therapy session, they will come in with definitions defined by the western medical tradition.  It is important to know the basic western concepts and / or where to find the information.

Yoga addresses the person as a whole, not as parts.  Therefore, it is important to know yoga philosophy and its concepts pertaining to the body.  Supporting our yoga work, āyurveda has assessment tools to support diving into pathology from the doṣa influences.  How is the body the silent communicator of the Spirit?  Where did the person lose the connection with Spirit?  What is the body saying with each anatomical compromise?  A yoga therapist must be savvy in the vedic foundations. If you understand the Vedic concept of body, mind and Spirit, yoga therapy will unfold!

The course will review the western-defined body systems (excluding musculoskeletal) from the perspective of each tradition:  yoga, āyurveda and western medicine.  We will look at common dis-eases within each body system through the eyes of an āyurveda-informed yoga therapist.  This course is built for those who have studied yoga therapy and want to deepen their understanding of the interrelationship of yoga, yoga therapy, āyurveda and the medical definitions of disease.  Students will be required to complete paper cases that document the application of yoga therapy throughout the training course.

Note: Musculoskeletal work will be a separate course offered in the future.
